The Interavia I-1 Leshii (a type of forest spirit in Russian folklore) was envisioned to fulfill a wide range of civil aviation roles, including flight training, SAR, aerial photography, environmental survey, etc. Initial production began at the LMZ plant outide Moscow, with the plan that components would be manufactured there and final assembly would take place at LMZ (as I-1) for Russia and at Phönix-Aviatechnica in Plovdiv (as the SL-90) for Bulgaria. By April 1993, 48 examples had been built in Russia and a handful in Bulgaria. This plane carries the number 50 on the lower fuselage. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
