Similar to the Alouette II, the Merckle SM-67 V3 is the third prototype of the first German-built turbine-powered helicopter, developed in the late 1950s and first flown in 1961. However because of the earlier availability of the Alouette II, the Bundeswehr opted for that type. The second prototype was used at MBB as a test stand for components of the Bo 105 and parts from it were used in the restoration of the one seen here This photo is copyright © Richard Vandervord, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
