The second prototype Scimitar, first flown from Boscombe Down on 26 June 1956. Used by the A&AEE and Vickers-Armstrong for trials until retired to Culdrose for instructional use as A2499 in 1960. In use by the Naval Air Command AC Driving School at Culdrose by 1968. Moved to Shoeburyness in late 1971 for trials use and derelict there by March 1988. Most of the aircraft was subsequently scrapped but the nose section survives and is currently with the Boscombe Down Museum at Old Sarum at time of upload This photo was added on 9 October 2025, and has since been viewed 31 times. |
