Looking more like an MR.2, this is a tricycle-undercarriage MR.3/3 sitting on its tail at the Manston Central Training Establishment fire school. First flying in August 1958, it was initially used for trials and underwent A&AEE acceptance testing in 1962 before service with 206 and 201 Sqdns. In 1965/6 it underwent Phase III modifications with the addition of Viper turbojets in the outer nacelles, next going to the Kinloss Wing and back to the A&AEE. It was finally despatched to meet its fate at Manston in August 1971 This photo is copyright © Richard Vandervord, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
