Two out of four Douglas F5D Skylancers are still present today. This one, ex-BuNo 142350 is preserved with the Armstrong Space Museum in Wapakoneta (OH), the home town of first man on the moon Neil Armstrong. The type, a development from the Douglas F4D Skyray, was built to simulate the flight characteristics of a planned re-entry space vehicle. Neil Armstrong flew this aircraft in the early sixties.
