Around this time, joint Japan-U.S. training was held at Nyutabaru Air Base, and U.S. Air Force F-15Cs flew in from Kadena Air Base on Okinawa Island. Four F-104Js (serial numbers 614, 683, 684, and 685) participated in the exercise without auxiliary fuel tanks. Without auxiliary fuel tanks, the F-104J's takeoff altitude is very high.
