Built in 1952 as a standard Canberra B.2, this aircraft spent its entire career as a trial aircraft. Initially, Armstrong Siddeley used it for Sapphire engine afterburner trials for the Javelin. It then moved to Ferranti for radar nose testing for the future Buccaneer. At Boscombe Down's A&AEE, it was adapted for de-icing trials, spraying water onto a trailing aircraft for filming. Later used for air-to-air photography, it was retired in 1983, sent to RAF Abingdon for repair training, and was finally preserved by the Newark museum in November 1985 This photo is copyright © Richard Vandervord, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
