Displayed in the markings of the 62nd FS, 56th FG (Selfridge AFB, MI) worn at the time, this F-80 is the only survivor of 16 aircraft to participate in the first overseas jet fighter deployment to Europe in 1948. After service with a pilot training unit at Luke AFB, AZ it was modified from F-80A to F-80C around 1953 and went on to fly with the Iowa, Oklahoma and Illinois ANGs. From 1959 it was put on display in a park in Aurora, IL, eventually going on show at Warner Robins in 1984 This photo is copyright © Richard Vandervord, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
