Accepted by the USAF in November 1967 as a CH-3E, 67-14703 was assigned to the 56th Air Commando Wing at Nakhon Phanom RTAFB, Thailand and served in Southeast Asia until returning to the US in September 1971. Having been modified as an HH-3E, it was later converted back to CH-3E. It served with various units and deployed to Desert Storm in 1990 with the 71st SOS from Davis-Monthan AFB. It was later assigned to the 41st ARRS at Patrick AFB, FL where it provided Space Shuttle rescue support during launches.
