Ex G-ACWJ. Privately owned but tested by the Dutch army during an exercise on 7 July 1936. Pilot Lt Hein Schmidt-Crans crashed at Soesterberg that afternoon, suffering a downdraft and hitting two busses filled with children. No one was hurt but the autogyro was 'crushed'. Registration cancelled in January 1938. Wreck returned to Cierva at Hanworth in 1938. Impressed as AP508 in June 1940 for radar calibration work. Ditched off Seaton by P/O Raymond Pullin on 16 April 1941. Photo from: Nederlands Instituut voor Militaire Historie This photo was added on 27 April 2025, and has since been viewed 94 times. |
