The aircraft's owner/builder lived for a while in New Zealand and the spiral shape on the fin is a Koru, a Māori symbol which represents a newly unfurling New Zealand Silver Fern frond. It is an integral symbol in Māori art, carving and tattooing, and symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace.
