USS Bennington was an ASW carrier from 1959, operating S2F Trackers and the HSS Seabat helicopters of HS-8. A couple of AD-5W airborne early warning aircraft were also embarked. Following four XHSS-1s, 137851 was the third S-58 production airframe. It was supplied to South Vietnam in 1968.
