The global DC-10 fleet was grounded for several weeks after the FAA issued an Emergency Order of Suspension of the DC-10 Type Certificate following the fatal crash of an American Airlines DC-10 at Chicago O'Hare on 25 May 1979 whereby the #1 engine & pylon separated from the wing during take-off.
