Unknown photographer. On back of photo - 149213 Vought F-8E Crusader VF-191 NM-108. No date or location. Delivered as a F8U-2NE and redesignated F-8E in 1962. In 1966 the aircraft is recorded with VF-191 'Satan's Kittens'. Moved to Marine Corp squadron VMF(AW)-232 in 1967 and shot down by ground fire on 19 May 1967 near Thon Cam Son, North Vietnam. The pilot was killed. VF-191 was home based at NAS Miramar, CA which may well be where the photo was taken. Carrying USS Ticonderoga titles which was a WWII vintage Essex class carrier used for a Vietnam deployment. This photo was added on 24 January 2024, and has since been viewed 132 times. |
