This 727 was destroyed on 27 February 1988 when on approach to Ercan Airport in Northern Cyprus. The crew had been cleared for a VOR approach, but cancelled IFR and descended to 2,000 feet, disregarding the altitude of mountains ahead, which rose to 3,130 feet. A late avoiding manoeuvre was unsuccessful and the aircraft struck the mountain. All fifteen people on board were killed.
