A tandem-seat military variant of the Aeronca Chief, the L-3, originally designated O-58, was produced in relatively modest numbers by WWII standards - just 1400 or so. It was used mainly for training Piper L-4 and Stinson L-5 pilots. This one, 42-36161, is listed as written off on 11 December 1942 at Fort Sumner, New Mexico, but it was repaired. Demobbed as NC46674 in 1945. N46674 exported to France in 2021. Its civilian owners included several women and it is here flown by a lady too, Pauline, as part of the Ham and Jam association at Saint-André-de-l'Eure (LFFD).
