Moving from Bad Gandersheim to Paderborn got me off the beaten track. I expected a primitive flying field when I drove up the Räuschenberg on a steep narrow road. Indeed this used to be just a gliding location, but a paved runway of 2671 ft was constructed in the 1970s. This was done partly as a Royal Engineers exercise at the British taxpayer's expense. Elevation is 934 ft above the sea level that this Seneca, adorned with the lighthouse of Norderney, probably uses to take off from.
