VH-UTZ did not last long with Australian Transcontinental Airways and was written off on September 6, 1935 during a forced landing at Alawalla Ridge, north of Alice Springs. The photo may have been taken as few days earlier, the 3rd, when it force landed at Kelly's Well due to low fuel. The vehicle says "Pioneer Tours Darwin Luggage Van" but is not Darwin aerodrome. In the Kelly's Well incident, a drum of fuel was brought to stranded aircraft and passengers went on by road. Photo from: David Caughey Collection
