NZ3142 was engaged in mock combat with P-40N NZ3147. Both aircraft had been loaded with live ammunition in a mix-up, exacerbated when the pilot of NZ3147 failed to select "off' for the gun solenoid. As a result he fired four rounds at NZ3142 which knocked out the hydraulics. NZ3142 belly landed after its undercarriage would not fully extend. The aircraft was repaired. Sold for scrap in 1948. NZ3147 survives and is to be restored to airworthy. Photo from: Air Force Museum of New Zealand
