Built in 1930. Named Winnie Mae after the daughter of oil man F. C. Hall, the original owner and a friend of pilot Wiley Post, who used it to win the 1930 National Air Race Derby, from Los Angeles to Chicago, and to fly around the world twice, in 1931 and 1933. The fourth achievement recorded on the rear fuselage is a high-altitude flight on 15 March 1935, with Post wearing an early pressure suit. The aircraft was acquired for preservation by the Smithsonian even before Post's fatal accident in August of the same year. Photo from: San Diego Air & Space Museum
