The D.XVI were vulnerable to wing flutter (vibration of the wing) during diving manoeuvres. The instruments were capable of indicating a max of 450km/h, often 250 km/h was reached twice. During testing, the aircraft crashed due to this wing flutter. Thankfully, the pilot survived. As a result, counterweights were added to the ailerons. Photo from W.
