This Canberra was built by English Electric and diverted to the RAAF from RAF an contract (serial WD939). Delivered to RAAF on 01 August 1951, it was the first Canberra to arrive in Australia (and in fact the first jet to fly UK to Australia), setting an unofficial speed record in the process. The aircraft spent most of its life with 82 Wing and the bomber OCU before being retired in 1973. It was put on display at the Central Ammunition Store at Kingswood, NSW until 2004. Acquired by the Vietnam Veterans Museum, it's currently under cover and undergoing restoration. This photo is copyright © Phil Vabre, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
