After the Japanese occupation of Indonesia, dozens of K5Y Willows fell into the hands of the Indonesians. They used some of these aircraft to combat the Dutch during the war of independence., mostly operating out of Maguwo airbase, which now is the international airport of Yogjakarta. The Dutch also used several of these aircraft (there are reports that two received Dutch markings). In 1948, the Dutch seized Maguwo. The Indonesian Willows were then captured by the Dutch. This poor picture, taken by my father, shows two of them lined up at the edge of the airfield wearing Indonesian markings.
