The 'Triple Nickel' flagship at the time is being prepared for another mission over Italy. Unfortunately this aircraft was shot down on 1 May 1999 by a Yugoslav SA-3 surface to air missile. Lieutenant Colonel David L. Goldfein ejected safely and later made it to 4-star General in the USAF.
