Possibly one of the USAF RF-4Cs that was used in Project Dark Gene in the early 1970s, under which RF-4Cs, flown by Iranian and US crews, transgressed the Iran/USSR border to test Soviet Union air defense capability. What is certain is that it was loaned to Israel as serial 151 to perform Suez Canal patrols in 1971/72 until their own aircraft arrived. It was later returned to normal service with the 26th TRW, being based at Alconbury and Zweibrucken (38 TRS). It also saw action during Desert Storm. At the end of its lifetime, this Phantom was converted to QRF-4C and shot down in 2014. This photo was added on 20 October 2020, and has since been viewed 672 times. |
