Based on the BAe 125 Series 800, Japan has 28 U-125As for SAR duties. They have observation windows, 360° radar and thermal imaging systems, flare & marker-buoy dispenser and extra comms equipment. A life-raft packed into a tube can be discharged through the mainwheel bay, requiring the undercarriage to be lowered. The aircraft has enhanced protection against salt water.
