The situation was precarious for the German invaders of Narvik in April and May 1940 and a squadron of large seaplanes was formed to fly in supplies and reinforcements. From 10 May the first three BV 138A-1 production aircraft were involved in an operation in the Ranfjord area, landing troops near Hemnesberget. Two of them were lost. This should be NG-UC as it was sunk here at Sundsbukta according to the German photographer.
