Development of the King Stallion is a major task, involving a large number of airframes and abbreviations. The four YCH-53K flying prototypes were followed by a number of 'SDTA' systems test aircraft, of which 169019 was the first. It appeared at the 2018 ILA.

In October 2018, the 48-year old Transall was ferried to Oberschleißheim for display at the "Deutsches Museum".
