Built as a U-2A with test registration N802X, this machine was converted to U-2G for aircraft carrier tests in 1964, then to U-2C. In April 1971 it was transferred directly from the CIA to NASA as N709NA, assigned to the Ames Research Center, NAS Moffett Field, CA setting 16 altitude and time to climb records for its class. Retired December 1976
