With a fleet of over 80 A320s and 100 destinations, Shanghai-based Spring Airlines is a low-cost carrier selling tickets exclusively via their ch.com website. They gained attention some years ago when it was proposed to operate A320s in a high-density configuration with backrests replacing seats, but approval from Airbus was not forthcoming.

Spring Airlines was considering the fitment of standing-room cabins, subject to Civil Aviation Authority of China approval, the Shanghai-based low-cost carrier claiming that they could sell tickets for 30-40% less. They would configure the A320 with 24 premium and 78 economy seats then 120 standing spots with padded back and armrests. Not surprisingly Airbus were not supportive!

Hyakuri AB has a civil terminal on the opposite side to the military base, serving as Iberaki Airport and built as a low cost-alternative to the Tokyo airports. Located 85km north of the capital, it receives a handful of Skymark and Spring flights each day
