Originally FM1023 of the R Malaysian AF, this Herald became very familiar to me as G-BEYG with BAF at Southend. Exported to Colombia a year before this shot, here "Don Celso" is seen taxiing to park alongside sister-ship HK-2702, ex G-BEYH. HK-2701 crashed on approach to Barranquilla on 16.9.91

This 1955 Liftmaster was retired by the USAF to Davis Monthan in 10.74 and was impounded at Villavicencio as N4241C in 1986. Acquired by Aerosucre in 2.90 and sold later in 1993 to Asur Colombia. Abandoned at Cali in 2010, basically complete condition

Aerosucre operated a fleet DC-6s and a couple of ex-BAF Heralds, later adding Caravelles before moving on to the current mix of Boeing 727 and 737 freighters. This Caravelle, originally Iberia's EC-BIF, is seen here in its ex-Aerolloyd colours and is one of a number that went on to perform often nefarious duties down in Colombia in their twilight years. Indeed she went on to Transapel and a drug smuggling career with Aerogolfo, being seized by the Mexicans in 1994 and landing up with the Mexican AF as 10507 (stored at Santa Lucia AB but now b/u).
