Tokorozawa is known as the 'birthplace of Japanese aviation', being the location of the first powered flight in Japan. The railway station at Kokukoen was designed to look like a Henri Farman Biplane and easily reached from central Tokyo. The YS-11 is visible on leaving the station, across the forecourt, and is on permanent display.
