The basic Harakka I glider was designed and built at the Jämi Aviation Club during the winter of 1944-1945 based on a Soviet Antonov US-3 glider found at Petrozavodsk in 1941. A total of 28 Harakka I gliders, 25 improved Harakka IIs, and the prototype Harakka III were built. The Harakka I H-5 was completed in 1946. It was used by Nyyssölän Lennokkikerho and later Lahden Ilmailukerho. It was withdrawn from service in 1964.
