The grim reality of war, MiG-21bis 17130 of the Yugoslav Air Force was shot down by Croatian forces near Slunj in early October 1991, during the Croatian War of Independence. It operated from Željava air base. The wreck of its aft fuselage is now on display at the Homeland War Museum in Turanj near Karlovac, alongside a Croatian MiG-21bis.
