Seen on a visit to the Tristar production line at Palmdale, California. The first model 500 for British Airways. First flight was 6 days later on 16 Oct 1978. Retained by Lockheed as the prototype model 500 as N48354 and delivered to BA as G-BFCA on 13 Apr 1980. To the Royal Air Force as ZD948 on 29 Mar 1983 and converted to a C1 transport in 1985 then to a KC1 tanker transport. Ferried to Bruntingthorpe on 25 Mar 2014 for storage and registered N304CS.
