Since November 2016, this Mirage is preserved at Paris Orly. The stunning cold war jet, is here awaiting take-off from its homebase, it is armed with an anti-radiation missile (AS.37 Martel). The 1970s Martel is Anglo-French and the name is a contraction of Missile, Anti-Radiation, Television, referring to the guidance options. The missile is 4.18 m (14 in) long, weights 550 kg (1,210 lb) that includes a 150 kg (330 lb) warhead. With a speed of nearly Mach 1 it had a range of some 60 km (37 mi). Only some 150 were built, so it was quite unique to see one in this fall visit to Nancy. This photo is copyright © Stephan de Bruijn, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
