The maiden flight of VL E.30 Kotka was on October 1st, 1930. A pre-proruction series containing five enhanched VL E.31 Kotka IIs was delivered 1931. The wider series production did not start. The Finnish Air Force used Kotkas until 1945. The aircraft is the only remaining aircraft of this type in the World and is on the show of the Päijänne-Tavastia Aviation Museum.
