While waiting for the Eurofighter, Italy leased 24 RAF Tornado ADVs in 1995 to replace some of its old Starfighters. Apparently the ADV failed to impress and it was replaced by yet another stop-gap, the F-16A/ADF, from 2003. Note the Advanced IFF antennae forward of the cockpit canopy of this F-16A variant, conceived for US Air National Guard air defence duties.
