The first of a small number of Tri-Motors to serve in the US Navy, the sole XJR-1 was the fourth production aircraft. It was first flown on 29 January 1927 and delivered that March, but damaged by a tornado on 18 November 1927. It was written off in April 1930, meanwhile fitted with the rounded wingtips seen here.
