On March 15, 2012, this aircraft crashed into a lagoon shortly after departure from San Juan-Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU), Puerto Rico

Former WinAir YS-11 was stripped of useful spares at SXM and put on a barge for the short trip to Philipsburg where she is now part of a restaurant. Two sandwiches and two Heineken beers for $10...the cheapest meal of the week! While the aircraft survived Hurricane Irma in September 2017, the attached restaurant was destroyed.

This veteran freight dog arrived from San Juan on Monday and Thursday mornings at about 0700 hauling bread for the Holsum Bakery. It crashed taking off from San Juan International Airport on March 15, 2012 killing both pilots. Thanks much to the head of SXM security for allowing me access to the ramp.

A longtime fixture in Phillipsburg, St. Maarten, this YS-11 survived Hurricane Irma with little apparent damage. Unfortunately, the restaurant building attached to it was totally destroyed.
