Roughly settled south-east of Nancy, Chenevières was one of the few DOBs (Dispersed Operating Bases) built in north-eastern France in the fifties for the USAF in Europe. With very crude facilities (only a few hangars and a control tower typically), they were designed to host squadrons on training, on a rotational basis, or in case of a major clash with the Warsaw Pact. Chenevières saw very sporadic air activity (from F-86s and F-100s) from its opening, in 1955, until it was decomissioned only five years later. Today it hosts some French army units.
