Originally designed by Bristol and first flown in March 1940, the Albemarle bomber featured nosewheel landing gear but was built of welded steel tubes and wood to conserve light alloys, and was adaped to serve as a transport and glider tug. 600 examples were manufactured by the AW Hawksley factory in Brockworth, set up by AW and Hawker Siddeley. This one was used by No 511 Sqn here at Lyneham for flights to Gibraltar. Photo by: W Bellamy / Imperial War Museums

Still registered as a Mitchell Wing B-10, ZK-FKY as seen here bore no resemblance to the original which is a tri-gear flying wing. The owner of FKY flew 11 hours in 1985 in its original configuration before starting the redesign. The rebuilt aircraft flew 149 hours between January 1990 and breaking up in flight near Port Waikato on January 25, 1994. The owner/pilot was killed. On-going elevator problems may have played a part in the wing failing. Bob Kerr photo

Hungarocopter was created in Verpelét in 2007 with the aim of developing a widely available ultralight helicopter. In 2010 the experimental, single-seat HC-01 was completed and this has now been developed into two-seat HC-02. Pictured returning to its landing pad after a very nice display at this show. ,

Hungarocopter was created in Verpelét in 2007 with the aim of developing a widely available ultralight helicopter. In 2010 the experimental, single-seat HC-01 was completed and this has now been developed into two-seat HC-02. Pictured returning to its landing pad after a very nice display at this show. ,

The second prototype of the Chase XG-20 assault glider was rebuilt as the XC-123A, America's first jet transport aircraft, first flown on 21 April 1951. The four J47 turbojets burnt too much fuel, but the XC-123 with two piston engines was ordered into production. C-123 production was eventually taken over by Fairchild. Photo probably taken at Trenton - Mercer, New Jersey. Photo by: Hank Walker / Life
