Bell X-2-1 and pilot Frank Everest after one of his 12 flights in this particular aircraft - one of two built. X-2-2 was lost in 1953. This aircraft and its pilot were lost on 27 September 1956 with pilot Milburn G. "Mel" Apt making his only flight. Bell Photo 106343

Official Boeing photo P 33495. Original caption reads: "…The 727, taxiing to a stop in the background, is due for airline service early in 1964. Testing at Edwards included landing performance and accelerated stops". Delivered to United 24 June 1964. Retired 1991 and used as ground trainer by San Francisco Community College from 1992 until scrapped in 2014.

The Fleetwings Model 36 was a plywood skinned aerial target which was given the military designation PQ-12A. It was powered by a Lycoming O-435 of 225 hp and could be manually flown for testing & evaluation when designated as the YPQ-12A (background). The protrusion hanging down from the right hand wing housed a TV camera that fed images to a mother-ship for remote guidance to intercept an enemy aircraft. In October 1943 the aircraft successfully downed a test drone over the Muroc Bombing and Gunnery Range by detonating a 500 lb bomb housed under the cockpit fairing. Note that the last two digits of the serial on the tail have been crudely changed from "49" to "45".
