This preserved Dakota, painted as G-AMSU but actually ex G-AMPP, was disposed of when Dan-Air was taken over by British Airways. After passing through a number of owners it was last reported dismantled, with parts in the hands of an owner in Poland.

Originally C-47B 44-76590, this C-47 was transferred to the RAF on March 26, 1945 to become Dakota IV KN451. It was purchased by the Canadian Government for the RCAF in April 1946, retaining the same serial number. In 1950, it was designated an instructional airframe and given the serial 655, the B designating an aircraft not complete without running engines. Moved to the Canadian Aviation Museum in August 1964 and stored outside until 2003 when it was obtained by the Greenwood Military Aviation Museum. Broken down into sections and trucked to Nova Scotia, it was restored for display.

The original plan was to have the Dakota outside but she isn't waterproof so due to the inclement weather she was photographed from outside with the hangar doors open. The Tower at Gatow has undoubtedly looked down on many C-47s over the years. This one had spent 32 years as a gate guard in front of the barracks at Gatow before being refurbished and placed on display to commemorate the Aussie participation in the Berlin Airlift. Based at RAAF Butterworth (Malaysia) from 23 Feb 1967 to 3 Jun 1980. Departed for West Germany 06 Jun 1980 and arrived there 11 days later. Placed on RAF registry as ZD215 for the final delivery flight to Gatow on 18 Jun 1980, because only British, US and French aircraft were allowed to pass through the Berlin air corridors up to 1989.

This old C-47 was formerly G-AMPO but is now preseved in RAF markings within RAF Lyneham.

The National Cold War Exhibition at Cosford contains many extremely interesting post-war aircraft in addition to this C-47 such as Belfast, F-111, Hastings, MiG-21, Valiant, Victor, Vulcan, York and many others. In addition there are lots of other interesting exhibits and informative multimedia displays that tell the story of this period.

KJ881 was operated by the RAF at the Weapons Research Establishment at Woomera, South Australia. The modified windscreen was to observe missile launches.At the time of the photo it had been sold by the RAF and was unregistered. In August 1969 it became VH-EQB with Jetair. Following the collapse of Jetair, it went to Laos as aid. The modified windscreen was retained..

Serial changed to P2-003. Sold in Australia and flown to Moree, New South Wales, in August 1993 on the trade plate VH-PTE. Placed on display outside a tavern.

Rare early image of Transair's ex RAF Dakota 4 G-ANEG positioning empty from its base at London Croydon. it will pick up 3.5 tons of Manchester-printed newspapers and transport them over to Ireland. The aircraft later served Don Everall, Executive Air Transport, Jersey Airlines and British United.

Served RAF as KK133 from December 1944 until March 1952 and then the Royal Netherlands AF with 334/336 Sqns until retirement in November 1962.

Delivered to the RAF in January 1945 as KK202, serving in South East Asia. Bought by Manx Airlines in March 1953 serving until sold to Air Kruise in November 1956.

Ex RAF KN353. Operated by British United Airways group companies from August 1963 until May 1969. A BUA Douglas DC-6B and Dan-Air Airspeed Ambassador are parked in the background.

Served the RAF from March 1945 until retirement in November 1967. It had been based in South East Asia, Gibraltar, Malta and Aden. Exhibited at the RAF 50th Anniversary display at RAF Abingdon.
