Presently displayed at Tamworth Airport, the home base for the former East-West Airlines. The RAF Museum thinks it has this aircraft but has VH-AZU ex LT773. The two aircraft were stored at Sid Marshall's yard next to Bankstown airport. East West Airlines acquired ASM, which was its first aircraft, from Marshall in 1972. AZU remained in the yard until after Marshall's death in 1975. The RAF Museum's confusion is a mystery as ASM was complete and on display when it bought its wingless Anson in Australia. A famous wartime incident when two Ansons of 2 SFTS became locked together while on a navigation exercise. The crew of the bottom aircraft, L9162, bailed out as did the navigator in N4876. However its pilot, Fuller, found he could control both aircraft with ailerons and flaps. But not the engines of L9162, which remarkably continued to run. Fuller flew on for a further 8km before belly landing in a paddock. N4876 was repaired and remained in service until 1947, Fuller was killed in road accident in 1944. Visit to the new airport in Jersey by twelve Ansons of RAF Coastal Command from Tangmere. Note the open display of the squadron number, replaced by a letter code a few weeks later due to the increasing threat of war. As MW-A, K8783 was destroyed by German bombs at St Eval on 3 October 1940.
