Delivery of Aero O/Y's second Ju 52 - OH-ALK was already put in service during 1932. These aircraft operated on floats in summer until the opening of Malmi airport in 1938. In peacetime after the Winter War on 14 June 1940, operating Aero O/Y flight 1631 from Tallinn, Kaleva was shot down by two Soviet DB-3 bombers during Soviet preparations to occupy Latvia. All nine people on board, including diplomatic couriers, were killed. This is said to have been the first commercial airliner shootdown by fighter aircraft in history. In a new hangar at Malmi with a Polish L-10A Electra and Aero O/Y Ju 52 OH-ALL. The airport was inaugurated in May 1938 but was finished much earlier. D-AHUS was built for Lufthansa in 1934. It served with Deruluft from March 1935 until the end of 1936 as D-AHUS Milan. It was leased to the Luftwaffe in August 1939, and returned to Lufthansa in September 1944 according to the records! 'The Prince of Wales at an English military airfield.' French press photo showing the second Ju 52 in Lufthansa service, delivered on 10 September 1932. Location is likely Croydon rather than a military airfield, and the alleged date, 12 October 1932, is impossible because Prince Edward left for Copenhagen on Imperial Airways on 21 September and returned from his trip by night boat from Holland on 15 October. While in Sweden, by the way, he and his brother George flew on another Ju 52, SE-ADR Södermanland, then already in service with AB Aerotransport.
