Docked at the base of its owner, Blue Water Aviation Services, of Silver Falls, Manitoba, and reflecting the sparkle of the flood waters of the Winnipeg River on its lower fuselage. This is its third incarnation with a different power plant. Started life in 1960, Pratt and Whitney piston-powered, as UB-656 with the Union of Burma Air Force. Had a PZL piston engine installed in 2002 and entered service with Blue Water Aviation, who had it further converted to Walter turbine power over the winter of 2009 /2010.

After its early morning efforts elsewhere, seen here resting in the afternoon, home at Hearst Air Service's Carey Lake base. First flew in 1956 as 55-3306 with the US Army, including periods of military service in West Germany. Crashed following engine failure in 1985 when operating for Red Lake Airways. Only rebuilt some eighteen years later, by Recon Air at Geraldton, when Hearst Air supplied a PT-6 engine and a Vazar conversion was completed. It joined Hearst Air's fleet in August 2004.

In storage, awaiting its fate. Initially delivered in 1958, as 57-6111, to the US Army with whom it served in West Germany. Retired and put up for sale in 1971. Operated from Kenora, Ontario, from around 1973 until 2016. Initially with Parsons Airways, until they were taken over by Kenora Air Service, whose colours and faded tail logo it still carries. One of four Otters acquired by an Alaskan buyer after the 2016 summer season. Put into store with Recon Air of Geraldton, where it is seen here, pending a decision on its future.

Put out to grass by the University of Fairbanks, which operated it from 1975 as N90422, in support of the Navy Arctic Research Laboratory (NARL). Still showing signs of its original military markings. Built in 1956 and delivered as U-1A 55-3296 to the US Army, which deployed it on operations in Alaska. Sold in 1993 and converted to a Vazar Turbine Otter with Kenmore Air, in whose service it has continued ever since. I have photographed it in operation again several times in its later life as seen here

During the winter of 2021-2022, Air Mont Laurier converted DHC-3 Otter C-GGSC to turbine power in their hangar at the Ste-Véronique seaplane base on the shore of Lac Tibériade, north of Mont Tremblant, Quebec. This was one of the last radial engine Otters in Quebec and the owners elected to outfit the aircraft with a 750 hp General Electric H75-200 turboprop with is a modern derivative of the Czech made Walter M601 turboprop. GE acquired Walter Engines in 2008.
