Returning to Nellis following an afternoon Red Flag mission was "DWARF 41" B-52H with the 416BW

First taking to the air in June of 1955, this B-52 began its illustrious, nearly 50-year USAF and NASA career as a bomb navigation system test airplane for the USAF's B-52 fleet. Ironically, test bomber spent most of its career dropping flight research vehicles rather than bombs. In 1959, it became one of two mothership launch aircraft for the X-15 program, which paved the way for America's early manned spaceflight efforts. Nicknamed "Double-0-Eight" and "Balls Eight" cut its teeth launching 106 of the 199 X-15 flights. At its retirement on 17 December 2004, Balls 8 was the oldest active B-52.

Assigned to the 416th Bombardment Wing stationed at Griffiss Air Force Base, NY. Retired at Davis-Monthan AFB in 1993 and scrapped in 2020.

"OTTO 11"(exercise callsign) B-52G over the numbers for 32. SAC sponsored bomb competition held that week with B-52G/H and B-1B's flying. Total of 13 overall in attendance.

Occupying a large space in the center of the cavernous hangar, this B-52D is on display at the start of the Southeast Asia War Gallery at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. While targeting SAM sites near Vinh on April 9, 1972, a SA-2 missile exploded near the left wing of AQUA 2 flown by Capt. Ken Curry of the 307th SW. The B-52 was damaged extensively, causing fuel leaks. It was flown to Da Nang where it made an emergency landing. All crew members were awarded the DFC. After being repaired, the aircraft flew four more missions over North Vietnam.

There was no International Air Tattoo at Fairford in 1992, instead a replacement event, known as Air Tournament International, was held at Boscombe Down. This B-52 was a Thursday morning arrival.
