One of the 13 aircraft assembled on the eastern boundary at Southend for the nascent British Historic Aircraft Museum. Arrived by air from Shawbury on 14 March 1967. Sadly, this museum came to nought but was resurrected as the Historic Aircraft Museum (Southend) in 1972. By that time TX211/G-AVHU had been vandalised. It donated its outer wings, rudder, tailplane & port engine to VL348/G-AVVO in the summer of 1971 and was scrapped circa September 1972.

The Avro 652 was the precursor of the Anson. Only two examples were built. Imperial Airways used them mostly to fly express mail to their seaplane station in Brindisi, until the Empire flying boats entered service. They were then sold to Air Service Training Ltd and impressed in 1941, G-ACRN becoming DG656. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

MacDonald Brothers Aircraft Ltd. built hundreds of wooden Anson V aircraft for the RCAF during WW-II. In addition they modified and repaired all types, as seen in the photo. Nearest the camera is a Noorduyn Norseman with fabric removed, next are two Anson tubular frames, then three Anson III aircraft with the original drafty "greenhouse" windows modified to suit the Canadian winter. In the background is the fuselage of Fairey Battle 1807 (code H-60). (Photo source: Bristol Aerospace.)

Former RCAF 12477 resplendent in it's original colors. Sold surplus circa 1956 as CF-HQZ, it flew with Trans Air and a year later Austin Airways. Stored after a take off accident in February 1959, it was acquired by Canadian Warplane Heritage in 1974 for possible rebuild. When another Anson already in flying condition was bought, this one was trucked across Canada to Vancouver for a restoration by the Western Wing of CWH. Deemed surplus by the museum, it was sold to the Reynolds Aviation Museum in 1992. It remains on display, but has not flown for some time.

One of the founding aircraft of Tony Osborne's British Historic Aircraft Museum. Arrived by air from Shawbury 15 days prior to this photo, on 14 March 1967. Wearing BHAM logo on the entry door. Sadly, this museum came to nought but was resurrected as the Historic Aircraft Museum (Southend) in 1972. By that time TX211/G-AVHU had been vandalised. It donated its outer wings, rudder, tailplane & port engine to VL348/G-AVVO in the summer of 1971 and was scrapped late 1971/early 1972.
