The Oxford trainer was developed from the Envoy light transport and Airspeed successfully converted surplus Oxfords to similar standards as Consuls after the war. Ex LX599, this one wears a Monaco registration and Monte Carlo Airways titles on the nose, but was never delivered to this company. It became G-AJAX instead and ended up in Israel. Photo from: Flight

Aircraft of Air Service Training. The second row of Oxfords are G-AIAT, G-AITB and G-ALTR. The Austers include G-AMUI, built in 1952, and G-AXKR, sold to Vendair of Croydon in 1957 and to Sweden in 1958. Helicopter training was advertised by AST as a new addition in 1955 but I don't know when the first Hillers arrived.

One of three Oxfords allocated by the RAAF to the USAAF at Townsville. The others were VHCOA and VHCOB however VHCOC is most likely. It had been BM740 in RAAF service, which had retained its RAF serial. The registrations were call signs used by transport aircraft in the South-West Pacific theatre and not civil registrations. They did not have hyphens. VHCOC was returned to the RAAF. Photo from: Townsville City Library
